New Kubota L4600 Tackles The Break At The Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club
- A new Kubota L4600 tractor has recently been put to work as the latest member of the Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club.
The Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club is located in Coolangatta, the southernmost coastal suburb of the Gold Coast. The life saving club is co-located with Greenmount Surf Club, and is situated at the end of Coolangatta's Marine Parade, right at the foot of the hill that separates Coolangatta and Greenmount beaches. It's a stunning location, much loved by locals and tourists. Here, the new tractor will see daily use towing the club's Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs) to the water's edge, along with moving their mobile Patrol Trailer up and down the beach, and performing municipal tasks with its custom front frame.
The new Kubota L4600 replaces an old Iseki TK537 (a precursor to the current Iseki TG Series), which is now set to enjoy some lighter duties after twenty-five years of service on the beach. This previous tractor was purchased from Noel Graham's Farm Equipment in Murwillumbah, which KC Equipment took the reins of in 2017 following Noels' retirement, and which now forms our Murwillumbah branch.
The tractor was organised by club lifetime members Norm Mavor and Rod Jones, who is also Director Of Surf Sports. The Kubota L4600 tractor was purchased with assistance from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which provides funding for not-for-profit community groups to help them provide services for Queensland communities.
KC Equipment has prepared quite a few 'Surf Club' spec tractors for Gold Coast surf clubs, and worked with Norm and Rod on providing a tractor that will meet their expectations for reliable long-term operation in these unique conditions.
The Kubota L4600 tractor features 4WD, an 8F/8R transmission with synchro shuttle, and a comfortable operator station, with storage and a suspension seat. Its 46hp Kubota 4-cylinder diesel engine produces plenty of low-end power to tow heavy loads on soft sand, without bogging down. As part of KC's 'Surf Club' spec, the tractor was specially prepared with galvanised wheels, a galvanised ROPS frame, and a galvanised custom front frame; rust proofing on the entire underbody and engine bay; and industrial tyres (chosen for the club's operation on sand, turf and bitumen). The tractor was also road registered, with all requisite beacons, reversing lights and safety equipment installed by KC Equipment, allowing the club to operate without impediment in and around their clubhouse, and along Marine Parade.
KC Equipment Director Russell Bryson says "The tractor is going to give great service to the club. Daily duties will become a lot easier and more comfortable. Towing boat trailers to the water's edge and moving heavy loads up and down the beach will be faster and safer."
Russel continues, "We're finding that, as time goes on, clubs are doing heavier work on the beach, with more equipment and heavier boats and loads. Often their original tractors are starting to fall behind, which is where KC Equipment can help."
